Lucía Carretero grew up in the countryside of Spain. At fifteen she bought her first reflex. When she finished school she left for the USA to study graphic design and painting. She returns to Barcelona to work in a well known advertising company which she combines with a course of script and film direction. After some years, tired of the stress and routine of advertising, she leaves the company and takes up all kinds of different jobs: filmdirection assistant, waitressing, art direction for comercials.. A personal relationship with a photographer makes her retake photography. From then on she has not stopped taking photos. She starts off with personal work: a small book of landscapes; a series of portraits from India; portraits of her pregnant girlfriends and of people she knows in the streets of Barcelona; the first steps of her son... Now, she combines her comercial work for graphic design studios, magazines and advertising with her personal work. She has made photography her work and a way of living. |
